February's issue of Kodansha's Monthly Young Magazine had a nice little surprise for fans of GitS. Sometime this year Ghost in the Shell is likely, highly likely to be returning for another series (most likely) or something else entirely. Though, I'm betting on a new series mainly due to the fact that the series is a) extremely popular and b) not much else would make sense...unless it were some kind of short OVA series, but I'm betting on a new series.
We do currently know is that Kazuchika Kise, of the new Evangelion movies and Blood+ is the director and Tow Ubakata (Le Chevalier D'Eon, Mardock Scramble and Fafner) will be handling the writing duties. That's pretty much it.
There isn't much else known and the rest is being kept in secrecy until the presentation on February 12th with all the juicy details. The event will be streamed live, starting at 9pm JLT (7am EST) on Youtube, Niconico and Bandai Channel. (The closer the event comes, the more info we'll have on that)
Also, Production I.D. has launched an official website for the new series, as well as Twitter and Facebook accounts.
What form this new series will take is anyone's guess, but we'll keep very close tabs on this one!
