[Anime]/Princess Mononoke Hits the Stage in Tokyo

A while back I wrote about Whole Hog's stage production of Princess Mononoke that had two extremely successful (albeit short) runs last year in the UK. Both of their runs sold out within hours of tickets being available, which set new records for the theater. Well, not only did manage to pull it off in stunning fashion but also received some critical acclaim for it. So much so that they're continuing the show...but not in the UK this time. They're headed to Tokyo with it!
‘We are extremely pleased to be able to announce further performances of Princess Mononoke. To be able to bring this production back to its home in Japan is an immense honour. We look forward to sharing this special show with even more audiences and celebrating the work of Studio Ghibli.’
Even more exciting for the cast and producers of this show is the fact that Studio Ghibli has also granted them the use of the original film score. Something that they will be incorporating into the shows in Japan as well as future performances. This, on top of the fact that this is the only Miyazaki film-to-stage adaptation that he has given his blessing for, makes it all the more a unique experience.

The show will be performed at the AiiA Theater Tokyo for a limited engagement between April 29th and May 6th, 2013. If you're in Japan and want to check out a truly unique show, definitely not one to miss. Pre-sale tickets go on sale tomorrow (3/6/13) and if their previous shows are any indication, this run will sell out very quickly.

For more information or about tickets and other specifics, visit the event's website.

But before we go, have the trailer for the Tokyo run!
