[Howl-O-Scream]/BGT Releases Info on The Experiment!

Busch Gardens Tampa announced earlier today, via their park blog, that this year's "alone house" experience is in fact called "The Experiment". Can't say that I'm that surprised, a little bit ago I had discovered the name of this experience due to a clerical error on their site in one of the VIP tour package descriptions. Now it's been confirmed!

That said, this is an upcharge event, it will cost an additional $50 to experience the madness of it all. It will cost an additional $10 per person, up to a total 4, to be added to that. So, $80 for four people? That seems, well a bit much to be honest and I don't see too many people doing this based on that. Especially since it's on top of regular admission.  However, you never know, people do some weird shit.

So, what's this all about? At this point in time, we're not sure if this is a house or a collection of experiences, the description of the attraction itself isn't exactly clear on that. Though, I'm kind of leaning to the idea that this is replacing the "Alone House" experience.

UPDATE: It has been learned that this is completely replacing the Alone House and it's definitely not a popular move for many, many people. I'm sure it'll be great and amazing, but this should've been an addition, not a replacement piece.

It does sound very different than last year's "Alone House" but, again, I'm not sure. Read on after the break to find out more!

Researchers challenge your fear tolerance and mental endurance in this never-been-done-before Experiment. In this exclusive study, “test subjects” endure psychological tests and must face top fear-inducing elements, from roaches and snakes to needles and darkness.

How far is too far in the study of fear?

Will you survive The Experiment?

From that description, I'm not sure what to think of this. It almost sounds like Fear Factor LIVE that Universal Studios Orlando had a few years back...but then again, who knows just what they have up their sleeves for this one. Reactions on Howl-O-Scream's Facebook page seem to be quite mixed as well early on. Maybe the info from the park blog can help things out a bit more:
Two years ago, the creators of Howl-O-Scream changed the haunt industry forever when they introduced Alone: A Personal Experience in Horror. Now, the Howl-O-Scream creative team is introducing the next twisted level of interactive scare experiences that they promise to be “the most personally invasive haunted attraction in Howl-O-Scream history” with The Experiment.
In this all-new experience you become a “test subject” and researchers challenge your fear toleranceand mental endurance. The test subjects endure psychological experiments and must face fear-inducing elements, from roaches and snakes to needles and darkness. You are not just seeing the scares. In the Experiment, you become part of them. Refuse to participate and your Experiment will be terminated. What will happen if you choose to play along and test your limits? Will they push the edge on how far is too far in the study of fear? Will you survive The Experiment?
Up to four test subjects can challenge The Experiment at a time, and reservations are required. The Experiment admission is $50 for the first test subject and $10 for each additional test subject in the same reservation. Howl-O-Scream admission is required, but not included. The Experiment is available every night of the event and is located in the Egypt area of the park.
Wait a minute, did they say needles?! Um...I get the roaches, snakes and darkness...but needles? Um...that's a bit unsettling. Everything else can be experienced, but the idea of seasonal theme park employees playing with needles near me is more terrifying than anything else. I'm also doubting the whole "introducing the next twisted level of fear" part. These kinds of things have been done before from the sounds of it, maybe they have a new twist, but this isn't really that new.

Also released was the full list and cost of the park's "Evil Upgrades", for more details visit their site.

Some of these are definitely interesting and not a bad deal at all. I know that if I was going there's a few that I would seriously consider. Especially since the event is only running for a grand total of 14 nights...time is of the essence.

So, there ya have it...again, I'm not sure about the pricing of The Experiment at all. Seems too high for something that's more of a "freak out" than a scare, but then again, what do I know?  I do know that last year's event only cost $25 and if you made it through alone (without a group) then you got a free t-shirt at the end of it. What exactly justifies this being so expensive? Again, not sure at all.

This feels like a move in the wrong direction from what they had last year. People loved the "Alone House" and many wanted it to come back this year. Doing an event like this and charging so much for it is just a bad idea flat out. There's no way that people are going to spend this much on the thing unless there's some pretty big perks for making it through. Even then, this is a stretch. Maybe if they had it priced like last year it would've been a good idea, but with this price? No way.

Stay tuned for more updates about The Experiment as they come out!
