[Haunts] Six Flags Great Adventure adds 4 New Mazes and a Scare Zone for Fright Fest

Well, it's about time something came out about this year's Fright Fest from the Six Flags chain of amusement parks. I mean it's only 3 days until the start of the event at Six Flags Great Adventure, but at least all the information is out there now!

The new additions bring this year's total to 6 mazes and 4 scare zones along with all the rides and shows one can expect. So, let's take a look at the new stuff coming to this year's event in Jackson, NJ.

It's about time they got this up, not like the event starts in just 2 days...oh wait it does. Opening Sept 13th, it's the first of the Six Flags parks at that.

Before we get into the new stuff, there's one thing that really bugs me about Fright Fest at the Six Flags parks.

That being the fact that they're charging extra for the mazes. In some parks this may not be a huge deal, but the fact that it's an additional charge at Great Adventure is just crazy. Sure it's only $45 if you buy online, but with 6 mazes at $5 a pop (last time I checked that is) you're looking at $75. That's not even getting into the whole parking situation over there which is $20. So, if you're with four people and want to hit everything, you're looking at $80. If you don't buy online you're looking at over $100...this isn't Universal here folks.

On the other hand if it's a piece meal kind of deal you can save some money if the lines are too long and you can't make it to a few things...so not bad if you think about it that way. I still don't like the philosophy they're using though.

Anyway, on with the show and what's new for this year's Fright Fest at Six Flags Great Adventure!

The holidays were a time of pumpkins and cider, and the children always loved running in and out of the rows of corn that seemed to go on forever. When the corn started going missing however, the local sheriff’s office patroled the fields to try and catch a glimpse of the culprit. It’s been said that as soon as darkness falls the spirit of the deputy haunts the corn fields, angry over his demise and continually hunting the thief who killed him.

Another take on the whole Scarecrow mythos and always fun if it's done right. I haven't been to a Fright Fest in ages, but here's to hoping they go all out with this one and make it something more interesting than what they've done in the past.

Next up? The new mazes for this year's event...got four of them so sit back and enjoy the ride!

Dan Williams was a business developer who was looking for a huge profit. He came across a patch of trees and knew the chemically-engineered plants provided an opportunity. In the distance, he saw the decontamination area, the only thing standing between his life and a ghastly death.  The pain from his melting skin became almost unbearable as he was surrounded. No one knows whether he survived, or if his exposure turned him into another horrific mutation.

Well now, that's interesting. Of course it's not the whole story, you can read that here, but it seems as if some kind of "nature fighting back" theme is going on here...well, not really nature as we know it at least. Could be a good spin on things.

Every town has a group of teenagers that seek thrills for breakfast, lunch and dinner and can never leave well-enough alone. It made them popular among the kids at school, but it was only a matter of time before something went wrong. To this day, people of the town say they can still see the flashlights waving, as if their spirits are signalling for help.

Ah, kids can be so stupid at times and we are in Jersey after all...but it's nice to see a decent story behind a "pitch black" maze for once. Sure others have had something, but it's really something overlooked...this time though, it seems someone was at least thinking about things.

The manor on Jackson Street was the largest house on the block, but it was very run down. The previous owner, a scientist named Dr. Landon, had moved out years ago and the house was never revisited. As an eager young carpenter, Jeffrey bought the estate in the hopes of renovating the abandoned property to make it a beautiful home he could flip for a big profit.

Yeah, a new take on the old "creepy house down the street" is always nice. However, the fact that this one belonged to a doctor? You can bet that things didn't go according to plan...for anyone. There's a lot more to the story on the Fright Fest website, so if you wanna know just click here for all of it.

A group of archaeologists set out on a mission to find ancient artifacts and skeletal remains that had been lusted over for years by people in their profession, but never attained. Before anyone knew what was happening there was an avalanche of rocks and as hard as they tried to run back out the way they had come, the path was too dark and slippery.

Oh, Archeology being brought into the mix...can't say that I'm really against that to be honest, but judging by the full description of this one it sounds like it's similar in theme Total Darkness in a few ways. Very dark, shafts of light, etc...probably won't be, but there's definitely some things that I can't ignore.

And that's that...looks like this year's event has a pretty good variety even if a couple things sound similar, the theming is a bit different around them at least. So, hopefully that translates pretty well over all.

One thing I am really impressed with is the fact that everything has a back story, even the shows and scare zones. They left no stone unturned with that this year and I gotta say, whoever decided that one...keep 'em around a little while. Too many places don't put any thought into it and for the diehards out there, it's a very welcomed thing to have!
