[Cons] Kalahari Sold Out for Colossalcon 2016

Well, that went fast. For those looking to head to Colossalcon 15 in 2016, you'll now have to wait to see if any rooms at the main hotel, the Kalarahi Resort, open up from cancellations. This news was announced around noon on June 9th, 2015. Yep, that's right, not even 2 days after the con was over, it was booked up fully. Talk about fast!

For those curious, that's right around 880 or so rooms in the span of a couple of days. Just how did that happen? Well, this year, it was posted that convention goers in attendance could reserve rooms for next year, during the convention. While not unheard of, it does present many problems and given the reaction on Facebook, did not go over well for many for many reasons.

It would seem there were several miscommunications that took place across the board. Not only from convention staff, but also the Kalahari itself. Many people were told things that weren't apparently true, ranging from the "entire hotel is the convention block" and people being charged full rates, to the hotel saying that calling Sunday wasn't an option, forcing people to call on Monday after the event, only to find out the rooms were gone.

These kinds of things will always happen, though, no matter when rooms were to go on sale. It's hard to say that no one would be upset, as many would be regardless of the timing or way of doing things. The apparent miscommunications didn't help the matter, but nothing right now will change the fact that those wanting to stay at the Kalahari will have to call back regularly to see if they can get a room from a cancellation or settle for the overflow hotels once they're announced.
