[Haunts] Everything New and Returning for SCarowinds Halloween Haunt in 2015!

SCarowinds Halloween Haunt logo

It wasn't too long ago that SCarowind's announced a new maze for the 2015 season. However, it turns out that's the only new thing coming to this year's Halloween Haunt at Carowinds. That's a little shocking as last year only one maze and scare zone were added to the line up too. It's an interesting move that proves that turnover just doesn't happen at these larger events as much as it should. Either way, it does look like they've got a great line up of things for this season.

This year's Halloween Haunt at SCarowinds (still love they change the name) will feature 7 mazes, 5 scare zones and 5 shows. However, unlike some of the other Cedar Fair parks, they don't have any Skeleton Key rooms. I'm a little shocked about that, but hopefully in the future they add them as this is one of those events that could really benefit from them.

Anyway, let's get on with all the details for this year's Halloween Haunt at SCarowinds. First up? The aforementioned new attraction for 2015, Slaughterhouse: The Final Cut.

I've already gone over a good bit on this one during the actual announcement, but here's a brief rundown of things considering it's really the only new maze for 2015.
"Slaughterhouse, one of SCarowinds most notorious haunted mazes is back and bloodier than ever! Take a terrifying tour of Red Ribbon Meat Company and meet our demented butchers - sure to deliver a prime cut you won't forget...no matter how hard you try."
What secrets will you uncover? Only time will tell and what of the Skeleton Key room lurking within? That's gonna be a challenging one without a question! Sure, the Slaughterhouse thing is done to death, but sometimes you just need a fresh cut of meat and insanity on the side. It's also fun to see the park going back to some of it's earlier work and bringing back a fan favorite, never a bad idea there.

Now to get to the returning line up, there's a lot of 'em so here's the other six mazes making their comeback of terror for 2015!

SCarowinds Halloween Haunt Maze Line Up featuring 7th Ward, CornStalkers, Defex, Last Laff 3D, Silver Scream Studios and Zombie High
Who doesn't love a little mental hospital madness? Sure, it's been used a lot but it's always so much fun to visit those lovable little psychopaths. Of course, getting out of the 7th Ward is another matter entirely...

Ah, another Cedar Fair staple, CornStalkers. A little stroll through the corn, with a few bloodthirsty monsters just waiting for you in the darkness. What's not to love? I mean, that's romantic, right?

This one reminds me of Doll Factory at Kings Dominion, and I absolutely love this theme for a haunt. Dolls are creepy on their own, but living human victim ones? All the more fun!

We won't talk about this. Clowns plus 3D are not exactly my friends. This is a trend I could do without. Not scared of them, just tired of the concept at this point. Let's move on.

Something tells me things have gone wrong with the Silver Scream Studio. If you've ever wanted to be a star, well, these guys have the ticket. As long as you don't mind dying for the part.

Ah, the '80s and high school. Seriously, this is just a trip down memory lane with a bit more death. I'm not even sure the death is that far fetched, we did grow up with Heathers back then after all. Times were weird, lemme tell ya.

And there ya have it, your maze line up for 2015. Definitely some fun themes in there, even if they are coming back for a repeat. I know I get a little down on things for not rotating things out, but the only one I could really do without from that list is Last Laff. It's just a played out and cliche theme at this point. yes, it's a sure fire scare with many but let's let the clowns be terrifying without the black light acid trip.

Now, time to check out the scare zone line up for this year. This is something Carowinds has always had a ton of and I'm glad to see they're not cutting anything from the line up this year either!

SCarowinds Halloween Haunt Scare Zones featuring Bloodyard, London Terror, Mass Acres, Scary Tales and The Playground
Nothing like a stroll through a lovely warehouse district. That is until you come face to face with all manner of bloodthirsty crazy that happens to call Bloodyard home. Think you can survive this walk on the wrong side of the tracks?

Ah, England, so lovely and charming. Well, until the undead show up that is. Still think this is a reaction to Busch Gardens Williamsburg somewhat but here it be.

Cemeteries are fun, I enjoy them but ones that have a long history of trouble making? Not sure about that one, and that's exactly what Mass Acres Cemetery is full of...troubled spirits.

Who doesn't love a good fairy tale, right? Most of them aren't what Disney's sold you on, however. They're dark, twisted things and roaming these woods is gonna be tricky to survive.

The playground, such fun times, until it gets overrun by hordes of the undead. Sure they just want to have fun...but you're the playground equipment for this lot! It's gotta be the kid thing again, I swear...they're just creepy!

Scare zones down, and plenty of variety to go around. I love the differing themes and from what I can tell, they really do fit into the areas that they go in pretty well. Again, haven't been to this one, so I can't really tell and I'm just going off my gut and pictures of the locations. Either way, happy to see such diversity going on and if they're anything like Dorney Park's scare zones, definitely a good thing!

Now it's time to get to the rest of the entertainment going on at this year's event. I'm actually pretty shocked to see just so many shows taking place, but it's a good thing. There's a tough balance to this kind of stuff, but I'm never against offering as much as you can during a seasonal event like this.

SCarowinds Halloween Haunt Shows featuring Graveyard Shift, Etnernal Jamation: Lost Souls, Rocktoberfest, Skeleton Crew and Tribal Terror
A little DJ fun to be had, so you can forget the terrors you've faced...or see all new ones in others dancing. That can be even worse than the monsters out there trying to dismember you sometimes.

Don't you just hate when you and some friends break into an abandoned warehouse and then become manic percussionists? This one's similar to Blood Drums at some of the other Cedar Fair parks but is always a fun time!

Rocktoberfest, hmmm I wonder. Nope, it's what your think it is. Arena Rock is back and with a whole new undead twist. Fits with whole Zombie High thing pretty good actually.

This is another show that's around at a few other parks but is something to keep an eye out for. High flying zombies, demons and other fun to be had.

I haven't heard of this one before, but it seems to be some kind of electronic, rock, percussion thing happening. That's a lot to get my head around, but it could just work out too.

And there ya have it, a few shows that are kind of musical anthologies, some death defying acrobatics and some really loud banging against stuff. Yeah, that sounds like a pretty good way to spend a Friday or Saturday night in my book.

Of course, a lot of the rides and other attractions are open for night riding and all of that, but you can find that info out for yourselves on the official site. This year's SCarowinds Halloween Haunt runs on select nights starting from Friday, September 18th thru Saturday, October 31st and mostly runs from 7pm til Midnight.
- September 18, 19, 25, 26
- October 2, 3, 4, 9, 10, 11, 16, 17, 18, 23, 24, 25, 30, 31
