[Halloween Haunt] Scarowinds Set to Terrify Sept 14th

I've always said its' Saturday the 14th that you have to watch out for, not so much Friday the 13th...and it seems the folks down at Carowinds have the same idea this year. Shunning the popular opening day for tons of other haunts and events, they're going with that dreadful Saturday instead.

Also, really love how they change the name, gives it a personal touch against other Cedar Fair parks out there...and it works too!

Okay, so they probably don't know about that horrible cheesy goodness that was the film, Saturday the 14th, but still...I like to think of it as they do and I'm gonna stick with that. You should too, if you haven't seen the movie, get a drink or two and find it. It's interesting...

Anyways, we're not here to talk about cheesy horror flicks (though maybe I should start covering those too at this rate). No, it's time to look at what's coming for Scarowinds Halloween Haunt this year! The line up for this year features 7 mazes and 5 scare-zones...only one new maze, but there are two new scare-zones for 2013!

First up? Everything new for this year...

Zombie High:

Know anyone who still “lives” in the 80’s? We know a few undead who do. Where Freshmen are Freshmeat and Seniors are dying to get out. You’ll need more than brains to survive Homecoming at Zombie High.

This is the only new maze for 2013, but it looks pretty good. Okay, gotta admit...love the '80s theme they're going to push with this. So much horror in just the clothing alone that will surely terrify anyone that grew up in the period. The fact that they're zombies wearing that hideous clothing? All the better!

London Terror:

“Steam” and “scream” collide with murderous results in the foggy streets of terror-gripped London. You won’t find this sinister city block on any maps.

Seems shows like Sherlock, Ripper St and even Steampunk stuff is still popular in the haunt industry and Carowinds isn't taking a back seat by adding this one. At least the description kinda gives me that vibe about this all new scare-zone for 2013.

Scary Tales:

Once upon a time, fairy tales were Grimm and every one was mad in this dark, twisted forest where no one lived happily ever after.

Another new scare-zone for 2013 that's taking the ever popular fairy tale motif and spinning it on it's head in a terrifying way. This one makes sense as well with how popular shows like Once Upon a Time are and it doesn't hurt that this theme is a pretty popular and proven one either.

There ya have it, everything new for this year's Scarowinds Halloween Haunt. What about the rest of the event? Well, I'm sure veterans will recognize a few of the returning horrors....

Cornstalkers:

This area is famous for two things: cornfields and killin’! You strangers should git on through as quick as you can, but don’t bother runnin’ to escape; you’ll just die tryin’.

DEFEX:

A toy box teeming with terror awaits you in this fun factory gone wrong. When demented factory workers, dolls, and stuffed animals are running the show, anyone is a contender for their next putrid prototype.

Fury:

Fury Industries, a top secret weapons facility and source of many a conspiracy theory, is using questionable chemistry to build the ultimate soldier. Come join us for a for-your-eyes-only tour of the facility where the drug will be sold to the highest bidder.

Last Laff in 3-D:

Ladies and Gentlemen, victims of all ages! Step right up to the clown’s eye view of terror!

(Seriously, always with the clowns and 3-D! What's going on with this stuff?!)

Silver Scream:

Join us on a “sinematic” tour of some of the creepiest horror films ever made. Perhaps you’ll become an extra in a nightmare where our director makes the final CUT!

The Aslyum:

Insanity is your only hope of forgetting the horrific sights and sounds from within this twisted Asylum. One step inside and you’ll be wondering: just who is running this place!

Feeding Frenzy: Scare-zone

Our bloodthirsty horde of hardcore vampires goes straight for the throat when you breach their gritty, alleyway hang out.

(Ah...vampires. Can never go wrong with them, can ya?)

Mass Acres: Scare-Zone

Death is a walk in the park compared to what the unsettled sprits of our not-so-dearly departed have in store as they await you in the mist on the grounds of Mass Acres.

The Playground: Sare-Zone

Swing by to let our twisted tikes show you that “it’s all fun and games until someone gets hurt”…..then it’s EVEN BETTER!

(No idea why they went with this image for this to be honest...maybe they just ran out of 'em?)

Also returning for the 2013 season are shows; Blood Drums, Eternal Jamnation and Night Terrors. Overall it doesn't look like a bad line up and while a few of these have been around for quite a while now, they're definitely popular with the Scarowinds veterans out there.

Halloween Haunt at Scarowinds runs on select nights from September 14th thru October 27th and tickets are available now from their official Halloween Haunt website. Tickets run anywhere from $26.99-$40 (depending on day of the week) online which is quite the savings over at the park prices which run much higher.

Couldn't resist....
