[HHN23]/All New Afterlife: Death's Vengeance Comes to HHN!

Night two of Universal Orlando's #HHNRevealWeek brings us an all new and completely original maze for this year's Halloween Horror Nights. Making several hints since early this morning on Twitter (right after the previous announcement of La Llorona in fact) and Facebook, they've finally come out with it.

It's interesting that they've decided to go with an interesting take on the 3-D house with this one. They're always tricky beasts to deal with...just be happy it's not clowns, eh? Either way, I surely didn't see this one coming at all! Very refreshing to see a new take on it, last year they did it with the Penn&Teller maze and this just shows they're not afraid to take it to an entirely different place. Again, thank the gods it's not something as trite as clowns!

So, without further ado, let's meet the newest original nightmare fuel creation from Mike Aiello and company...

Well, that was a bit unexpected. Something prison themed? Not so sure...it is an electric chair, those do usually only show up in one place after all.

Let's check the official description and what creative director Mike Aiello has to say about all this:
Witness the brutal vengeance of his victims as they turn his afterlife into an inescapable hell...

This fall, 2000 volts of electricity are going to send serial killer, Bobby “The Blade” Galleta into a horrific realm of suffering at HHN23 in this new, original haunted house, Afterlife: Death’s Vengeance.

Okay then, that's definitely interesting to see. They've gone and created a pretty unique figure for this one and as Mike Aiello went on to say on Twitter it's definitely a "darker thematic than we've done with our 3D mazes in the past..." and that it will be set in the 1930's but just for the opening of the maze.

So, we're doing a little inter-dimensional time travel here from the sounds of it, but still keeping "many realistic qualities as well" and "Really telling a story rather than uv for the sake of uv." That bit right there is really encouraging, but the folks at Universal have always been great with storytelling in their haunts, hopefully this one lives up to the expectations.

So, just what can guests expect from this electricity fueled terror ride? Well he clued us in a little on that one as well,
"You will go on Bobby's journey from 2000 volts to where his victims have patiently waited...You will go from his execution to his out of body experience and you will retrace the headlines he made while on a murderous rampage through [the town of] Carey..."

I quite like the sound of that actually, we're starting with the death of Bobby "The Blade" and then going for a hellish ride to where either he's getting vengeance or his victims are on him. Yep, I'm definitely intrigued by this (if you couldn't already tell). Where did the name of the town come from? Well, we've got an answer for that one as well!
"Carey is the hometown of someone on our team. It has picked years ago as just a throwaway location and has become our favorite setting!"
Now, some may wonder if this has any ties to the previous InBetween maze experience and we have answers on that as well. (Seriously, Mike is being awesome with all the questions he's been getting).
"This will be in the vein of InBetween but more violent aesthetics [and] there are most definitely some InBetween homages... UV,Lasers, demonic souls... All wrapped in a brand new pulp type story... Very excited!"
Further elaborating on this, Mike and his crew apparently got a lot of the inspiration from Johnny Cash of all things (I can see that actually), "Listened to nothing but Cash while creating this maze with the team... This was so much fun. Honestly... Johnny Cash's "there ain't no grave" just set the tone. And pulp comics... Just provided the right mindset to write."

So, there we have it! The first completely original maze for this year's Halloween Horror Nights at Universal Orlando. As always, you can find more information about tickets, hours and other such goodies at their official website. Just remember to come back as we uncover more info about this newest haunt and the rest as they come out!
