[Haunts] Cornered and Lumberhack Coming to Howl-O-Scream at Busch Gardens Williamsburg!

Howl-O-Scream Unearthed Logo

Hot on the heels of the Scarlett's Revenge announcement earlier today, it looks like the cat is out of the bag on the remaining two mazes for this year's Howl-O-Scream at Busch Gardens Williamsburg. There was a great deal of speculation on both of these, and it would appear that the working titles, were actually the names. Who knew? Okay, so Lumberjack is Lumberhack...close enough.

So, that said, this year will also welcome Cornered and Lumberjack into the maze line up. The first time ever that there's been 7 mazes at Busch Gardens Williamsburg's event. However, I'm starting to question the shortened hours with that much going on, it was already a squeeze with just 6 to hit everything...

Anyway, let's get down to the details of the newest additions to Howl-O-Scream. First up? Lumberhack.

Hikers beware: the woods hold a terrifying secret.  More than 50 years ago a logging camp was abandoned after a horrific accident where saws ripped into human flesh instead of tree bark. Tragically, the loggers perished … only to inexplicably awaken from death sometime later filled with inhuman rage. The undead loggers rampaged until every living thing in the camp had felt the bite of their axes. Now the forgotten lumberjacks lie waiting for unsuspecting campers to stumble into their den of the damned.

Evil lumberjacks and loggers? Interesting...kinda was hoping for some werewolf fun here with Bitten being so close, but ya take what you can get. Now, for those that don't know, Lumberhack will be a 100% totally new build in a location that hasn't been developed before for anything.

It really has me wondering if we'll see something going on in the area between Bitten and the new maze as well. Could be a good place to get some more scares in or at least some scenery because anything is better than leaving an empty lot just sitting there. At least, that's my view on things.

I've already written a lot on this one and the layout is even known, but that was all in a post from just the other day. So, if you're so inclined, can go and check that out.

Now, let's get to the next bit of new stuff coming to Howl-O-Scream 2015, Cornered!

This one really had a few people, myself included, scratching their heads. A corn themed maze, at Busch Gardens? Well, it could work and with the addition of Cornered, there's now reason to think that it will. These mazes, when done property are pretty excellent, and while it's hard to recreate an actual corn field experience, most do a pretty good job of it.

It’s 1977 and a picturesque farming community is in an uproar over the ongoing disappearances of its residents. Each time someone goes missing, an intricate corn husk doll is left behind leading many to suspect local corn-farmer Jasper McCobb.

The McCobb farm has fallen into disrepair since the death of Jasper’s mother. Could the missing townspeople be somewhere in the maze of maize? Join the search party and find out.

Interesting, a time period maze. Well, it's not like they haven't happened before but it does seem a little strange. That and McCobb? Really? That's slightly cringeworthy there but it does play into the puns already happening with the name of the maze.

It will be interesting to see just how the creative team pulls this one off as the location isn't exactly a field and is...well, it's paved. They have their work cut out for them, no doubt. Either way, I am looking forward to see how they turn the former garden center maze location into something that's hopefully worthy of talking about for a while.

They've definitely set themselves up for a big year, one that's been needed as for the past couple of years our review team has thought things were getting a little stale. So, it's good to see some big, and very much welcomed, changes happening. Looking to be a pretty great year for them.

Okay, there's all the details that we have on these two. Again, this is the first time the event has ever had so many mazes and it seems that they're taking a bit of a turn away from "what makes sense for the themed area" and going into more creative territory. I'm a little torn when thinking about that since the old world European themed areas offer up so much to play with. That said, I'm still excited to see everything first hand come late September.

So, not much left to cover for this one, but don't worry, the traditional Mega Post will be coming in the next couple of days with all kinds of info so stay tuned for that, our in depth review of the event coming later in the season and of course, follow along with us on on Twitter, Google+, Tumblr, and even Facebook if you must, for all the latest!
